Tuggerah Lake
The Wyong River was used by European timber cutters to float cedar logs down to the coast.
Canton Beach was named for the Chinese fishermen who settled here in the 1860s. They also used the many Cabbage Tree Palms that grow on the lake shore to make hats.
The fish and prawns caught in the lake were cured, then shipped to Queensland, the goldfields and back to China.
