Norah Head is situated at the intersection of a series of dykes that are visible in the rock platform.

 

They are of slightly different ages, with the NE / SW trending dyke older ( 76 Ma) than the NW / SE which has been dated at 72 Ma.

 

They are probably associated with the opening of the Tasman Sea.
