The re-establishment of the subduction zone also produced several volcanoes off the Central Coast

Eruptions from these produced layers of ash throughout much of the Sydney Basin.

A lateral blast knocked down a forest of Glossopteris trees at Swansea Heads. They were fossilised by the layers of ash which then covered them.

The ash became a rock called Tuff and the beds here are over 8m high.
