Thomas Parton decided not to mine the Great North Seam but chose the Wallarah Seam where it outcrops in the high land in the North.
A railway was constructed to transport coal to the jetty he built to replace the original one that had been burnt. Skips on this line can be seen in the foreground.
The Parbury family were familiar with the inclined rail line seen here; they had constructed a similar one in a kerosene shale oil mine that they owned in the Southern Highlands.
