The Wallum Banksia is very similar to the Old Man Banksia (Banksia serrata); both have serrated edges on their leaves but the latter’s leaves are wider than 2 cm (0.8 in) in diameter and the trunk is greyer, and not orange-brown like the Wallum.
Flowering in Autumn and Early Winter makes them a very valuable food source for many insects, birds and at Wybung, the New Holland Mouse.
During the day the New Holland Mouse lives in a burrow or under the leaves of a Grass Tree and it feeds at night.
Banksia flowers are one food source. Others are seeds, fungi, leaves, flowers, and small invertebrates.
