The seed capsules on this Wallum Banksia have been opened by the fire and the seeds have been blown away from the tree.
The inflorescence is a valuable food for many insects, birds and small mammals such as the New Holland Mouse. It was also steeped in water to make a sweet drink for the Awabakal and Darkinjung People.
The woody seeds smoulder for long periods and were carried in Coolamons to take fire to a new camp site.
